HERITAGE REIMAGINED: Where Tradition Evolves and Grows

This Independence Month, ASHTA District 8 presents HERITAGE REIMAGINED, a month-long cultural program running from 5–30 August 2026 that explores how Indonesian heritage continues to evolve through contemporary creativity. Bringing together fashion, design, music, craftsmanship, and visual storytelling, the program invites visitors to experience tradition through a fresh, modern lens.

At ASHTA, heritage isn’t placed behind glass. It moves, grows, and finds new meaning through today’s creative voices. Every installation, collaboration, and curated experience celebrates the idea that culture isn’t simply inherited, it’s continuously shaped by the people who choose to carry it forward.

Algorithm: Universal Language, Woven for Today

Taking center stage at Melting Pot, Ground Floor, Algorithm: Universal Language by Wilsen Willim transforms Indonesia’s weaving tradition into an immersive contemporary experience. Inspired by the intricate rhythm of tenun, the exhibition explores how heritage can become a universal visual language through fashion, music, and experimental design.

Rather than recreating tradition, Wilsen reinterprets it. Familiar weaving structures are translated into modern silhouettes, innovative textile techniques, and sustainable approaches that speak to today’s generation while staying deeply rooted in Indonesian craftsmanship. The result is a dialogue between past and futaure, one where every thread carries history while pointing toward what’s next.

The celebration continues with the exclusive launch of Wilsen Willim’s capsule collection with Dian Sastrowardoyo, a collaboration that reimagines iconic Indonesian silhouettes including Kebaya Kartini, Kebaya Kutubaru, Beskap, Surjan, and Silepan Hussar, into versatile ready to wear pieces designed for modern everyday living,  the collection proves that heritage can feel timeless without losing its cultural soul.
