Some stories are told through words, others through flavors, and sometimes, through patterns passed down across generations. For KAKAW, that story begins with cacao, a humble bean that carries centuries of tradition, trade, and taste. Known for crafting artisanal pralines inspired by Indonesia’s landscapes and flavors, KAKAW treats chocolate not just as confectionery, but as a canvas for storytelling. Each creation is rooted in the archipelago, carefully layered to evoke memory, place, and heritage.
A Collaboration with Sejauh Mata Memandang
This season, KAKAW collaborates with Sejauh Mata Memandang, an Indonesian fashion label celebrated for weaving cultural narratives through textile design. Together, they present Bunga Laut, Tanah Rempah. It is a collection that bridges flavor and pattern, land and sea, memory and imagination.
At its heart, this collection is a journey across the archipelago. It begins in Papua, where fertile soil and sea breezes nurture flavors both bold and comforting. Imagine the fiery kick of Colo-Colo sambal in delicate chocolate, the buttery richness of Kenari, the floral notes of Arabika Wamena coffee, the zest of Jeruk Rimba, the soft embrace of Talas Kelapa, and the unmistakable depth of single-origin Ransiki cacao. Every praline is a postcard in flavor, carrying the character of the land it comes from.
From there, the trail winds its way to Sumatra, a land renowned for its spices and warmth. Here, heritage takes shape in Ruby Kecombrang with its bright floral tang, the silky softness of Dadih, the earthy lift of Coffee Galangal, the nostalgic sweetness of Bika Ambon, the savory essence of Rendang reimagined in chocolate, and the daring citrusy heat of Andaliman pepper. It’s a collection that feels like stepping into a traditional kitchen and finding something both familiar and new.

Bunga Laut, Tanah Rempah
Yet Bunga Laut, Tanah Rempah isn’t just about taste, it’s about what we carry forward. Each Assorted Chocolate Box of 12 comes paired with a special Bunga Laut bandana designed by Sejauh Mata Memandang. A timeless keepsake, it reflects the ocean and spice routes that have long defined Indonesia, reminding us that heritage can be worn, shared, and lived in everyday life.
Available from 17 August – 17 October 2025 at KAKAW, ASHTA District 8, this collaboration is more than a seasonal release. It’s an invitation to pause, to savor, and to celebrate the layers of Indonesia, from land and sea, taste and texture, memory and imagination.
Because in the end, heritage is not just something we inherit. It’s something we rediscover, reinterpret, and pass along — one bite, one pattern, and one story at a time.
