In the middle of a city that rarely pauses, ASHTA District 8 carved out a moment of stillness. Over the weekend, two deeply resonant reading activities, LiteraTOUR and Silent Reading came together to create a shared space for quiet reflection, one page at a time.
It began on Sunday morning, July 6th, with a small but spirited crowd boarding the MRT at Lebak Bulus Station. Organized in collaboration with the community behind LiteraTOUR, the journey invited participants to read silently while on the train, a moving, literal exploration of how stories can travel with us. It wasn’t just about finishing a chapter; it was about reclaiming time to slow down, even amidst the flow of a busy commute.
Their destination? ASHTA District 8. A place where ideas, people, and perspectives often converge. And it was here, on the 8th floor Rooftop Garden, that the second part of the experience unfolded.
Silent Reading, co-hosted with the Baca Bareng community, welcomed over 300 readers into a sunlit morning of collective quiet. There were no microphones. No speeches. Just the gentle rustle of pages, the warmth of the sky, and the comforting reminder that solitude doesn’t always mean being alone.
In a world full of noise, ASHTA offered a different kind of connection: to ourselves, to stories, and to each other. The event reflected ASRI’s larger commitment to Shaping a Better Tomorrow, a vision rooted in mindful living and the beauty of small, human moments.
