Jakarta, 15 March 2025 – Sustainability isn’t just a trend, it’s a movement. And as part of ASRI, ASHTA District 8 believes in taking tangible steps toward a greener and better tomorrow. ASHTA District 8 collaborated with Setali Indonesia, Andien Aisyah Foundation, and Nara Kreatif to host a meaningful Upcycling Workshop at Sekolah Anak Percaya, Rawa Bebek, North Jakarta. This initiative brought together 55 enthusiastic students from children to housewives, to transform pre-loved clothes into something new, valuable, and entirely their own.

Old Clothes, New Purpose

Starting in January 2025, ASHTA invited visitors to donate their old clothes through Upcycle Dropbox, which were then curated by Setali Indonesia. Instead of letting these garments go to waste, they were repurposed into new creations through the art of upcycling. During the workshop, Setali guided participants in converting their old t-shirts into functional bags, giving them not just a new product but also a hands-on lesson in sustainability.

But this wasn’t just about crafting. It was about shifting mindsets. The workshop introduced young minds to the idea that every item we own holds potential, potential to be repaired, repurposed, and reimagined rather than discarded. Every stitch sewn and every creative decision made became part of a bigger commitment to reducing waste and rethinking consumption habits.

Insightful Discussion on Sustainability

Beyond the hands-on experience, the event also featured an insightful discussion on sustainability, emphasizing how small, everyday actions, such as reusing materials or minimizing single-use products—can contribute to a healthier planet. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, curiosity, and a shared commitment to making a difference.

To close the day on a warm and communal note, the workshop ended with a special Iftar gathering, celebrating togetherness and gratitude. This moment was made even more special with the support of ASHTA’s tenants, including ACAII, Curry Up, FLIX Cinema, GRAM, Iki Koue, and Paris Baguette, who contributed to this meaningful occasion.

General Manager Corporate Communications & Affairs of ASRI, Troy Fridatama shared his thoughts on the initiative, “We are incredibly proud to collaborate with Setali Indonesia and Andien Aisyah Foundation to bring this project to life. This workshop isn’t just about recycling—it’s about fostering a culture of sustainability and awareness, especially among younger generation. We’re grateful for the support from our partners, who helped create such a memorable and impactful event.”

The impact of this workshop went beyond the fabric and stitches. Participants left not only with a handcrafted bag but also with a newfound understanding of how small actions can lead to significant change. This event was a testament to how creativity and sustainability can go hand in hand, turning waste into wonder and inspiration into action.

Believe in The Power of Collaboration and Community

At ASHTA, we continue to believe in the power of collaboration and community to drive change. By working together with organizations, creatives, and engaged individuals, we can inspire more meaningful steps toward a sustainable and mindful future. This workshop is just one of many ways we strive to make an impact, proving that every effort, no matter how small, contributes to a bigger, greener, and better tomorrow.
